RollwithitHarry's Story
Harry had been racing in Yonker's and we had been following his career thinking of him as a potential stallion addition at Woodmere for about 1 year. We finally acquired him in Oct 2015 as a 7 yr-old from Daniel Dube and Scott Di Domenico. He was a son of Rocknroll Hanover, showed great speed as a 2 year-old and went on to make $650K in his career. At 2 and 3, he raced with the best in North America in the Metro, the Jug, the Messenger, the Adios, the Rooney, and the Confederation Cup. Harry retired from racing when he arrived in PEI in November 2015. We were super happy when he arrived to see that his size was ideal for our half mile tracks. Harry's stallion career began in 2016, resulting in 22 babies eligible to race in 2019 and 17 more born in 2018. From the time he arrived from NY and through his first couple of years at stud, we noticed how fit Harry stayed just from playing in his paddock and how he loved to race cars and trucks up and down the driveway. Harry has always been energetic, wanting to play and showing lots of life.
In the Spring of 2018, we got the idea of bringing Harry back to the track. This partly came from the fact that the life of a stallion on a breeding farm can be a lonely one, with the exception of a couple months of the year. Twice we turned away from the idea, knowing he had nothing to prove with two crops of foals on the ground and $650K by his name. Once we came to the realization that we weren't bringing Harry back to the track for ourselves or to add credit to his name, but just to enrich his life, it became came an easy decision for us and for Ronnie. Daily life was going to be great for Harry; going out to jog, getting baths, and the constant interaction with people would all be fantastic from Harry's perspective. We decided to take it month by month, and if, at any point Harry seemed unhappy, he's only a 10 minute drive back to his paddock at Woodmere.
Harry quickly became a stable favorite with the Matheson family. He clearly loved being back at the track. It took 4 months of training to bring him back into racing form. He started 13 times in the 2018 racing season and won 5 starts. He loved race nights and could sense the excitement in the air. Harry returned to Woodmere when the racing season finished in January to rest for the 2019 breeding season. Harry has recently returned to the track in mid May, and if all goes well, will be ready to qualify early in July.
This year is extra exciting as it will be just as much fun to cheer for Harry's 2 yr-olds as it will be for their father. It's a unique opportunity to watch a stallion race at the same time as his offspring; we're optimistic that it's going to be a fun summer for everyone involved with Rollwithitharry Racing!
